How I Journal for Productivity

Updated: Aug 2, 2023

It’s the beginning of the new year, and everyone focuses on new resolutions, goals and dreams. Most of us try to improve ourselves daily and make a noticeable yearly development. I have always been keen on time management, and I am a well-organized person; I used to write down my goals every begging of the year, but this year I decided to focus on small goals day by day, which may lead to significant achievements at the end of the year.

I have been using the bullet journal since 2016; I should admit that my life is getting more and more organised than before, I used to colour and prepare my journal every day before, but two years ago, I adopted a new style, “Minimalism Style” using one colour to journal, rather than colouring and drawing. So, I am sharing the type of bullet journal I am using this year and the style I am also adopting.

Journal for 2023

I have tried the bullet journal Edition 1 and am in love with it, I decided this year to go with Bullet Journal Edition 2/ blush pink, as pink is one of my favourite colours ;)

What is Bullet Journal Edition 2

It comes in three colours, black, blue and blush, with little guidance to help you start your new journal and:

  • A front page to write your name and contact details.

  • 206 numbered pages.

  • The back pocket of the journal.

  • Key, 1 page.

  • Intentions, 1 page.

  • Index, 4 pages.

  • Future logo, four pages.

  • Stickers for the journaling.

How I will journal this year

This year I decided to continue with the minimalist style of journaling because it’s effortless, especially this year, as I have many things to track. I choose not to plan any future goals and put myself under pressure; I will keep it simple and plan day by day. So, I will start section monthly plans, weekly and daily plans.

Monthly Planning:

  • As I said, no goals and pressure will add to the monthly plans; for example, I will not pressure myself to read six monthly books, etc.

  • I started by identifying the month's important days and events, such as birthdays, deadlines, appointments, etc.

  • Also, if there is any task I have to finish this month, I have to clarify it at the beginning of the month.

  • I will use the wheel of life to evaluate myself by the end of the month; this method helps me track myself. Read more about The Wheel of Life here.

  • A summary of the end of the month is a must and proposed some ideas to improve the next month.

Weekly Planning:

  • My week starts from Saturday till Thursday; Friday is my day off :D I don’t plan anything on Friday unless there is something important.

  • I plan my tasks, deadlines and meetings similarly to monthly plans.

  • Sometimes I summarise my achievement for the week.

Daily Planning:

  • I go more specific daily, which will be my main concern for the year live day by day.

  • I usually prepare a to-do list the day before or the night before I sleep.

  • I woke up in the morning and quickly reviewed the to-do list. I might make some edits.

  • Sometimes, I apply time blocking for each task, which helps me focus on one task at the moment.

Note: Time blocking is an excellent method to organise and dilaurate your work during the day. Cal Newport has created his new time-blocking journal; it might be helpful for some of you.

  • Sometimes, by the end of the day, I summarise what I have achieved and not, and I have to give a justifiable reason for the failure, such as any distractions or an accidental event, etc.

Here are my favourite notebooks for journaling:
